The Best Places to Stay in Singapore

Looking for the best area to stay in Singapore? Check out this list of the very best places to stay in Singapore.

Singapore is a small country slash city, yet there’s still an incredible number of places to stay during your trip to Singapore. If you want to make the most of your trip to Singapore, it’s important to find the right base for your metropolitan adventure.

Singapore is known as one of the most expensive countries in the world and hotel prices are certainly no exception. But you shouldn’t be too deterred by the prices because there are also relatively cheap accommodation options just outside the city center.

However, you should be aware that you must stay close to a metro station. This way, you can easily get around the city and visit the main sights of Singapore.

If you’re planning a trip to Singapore, I would like to recommend the very best places to stay in Singapore for any kind of traveler.

7 Very Best Places to Stay in Singapore - Endless Travel Destinations

Clarke Quay: For the partygoers

Centrally located between Orchard Road and Marina Bay Sands, Clarke Quay is located right next to the Singapore River. This perfect location makes the area one of the best places to stay in Singapore. From here it only takes a short walk or a quick subway ride to get to all the main sights of Singapore.

Clarke Quay is also famous for its bustling nightlife with world-class restaurants, wild nightclubs, modern bars, and charming pubs. Clarke Quay is the obvious place to stay in Singapore if you love delicious food, a cozy drink, or wild parties all night long.

But you need to know that it isn’t exactly cheap to stay in Clarke Quay and that the area is mostly for those with a little extra on the coffin bottom. However, it is possible to find hotels and hostels that are affordable if you just look in the area a little further away from the popular quay.

Marina Bay: For first-time travelers

Another extremely popular place to stay in Singapore is Marina Bay, one of the most beautiful areas in all of Singapore.

Marina Bay is home to some of the biggest sights and attractions in Singapore such as Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and Merlion. This is also the place where you’ll find some of the largest and most luxurious hotels, exclusive restaurants and bars, shopping malls, and impressive skyscrapers in Singapore.

Due to its central location, Marina Bay is the perfect area to stay for any traveler. But living in central Singapore isn’t exactly completely free. In fact, it costs a small fortune to live in this luxurious area. Whether you’ll stay here or not, Marina Bay is still a must-visit during your trip to Singapore.

Little India: For backpackers

As the name suggests, Little India is the center of Indian society in Singapore. And it’s one of the most vibrant areas of the city filled with colorful houses, impressive temples, mosques, street art, and lively markets.

Little India isn’t only a great place to stay in Singapore if you’re interested in culture but also if you’re totally crazy about new dining experiences. In Little India, there are countless delicious restaurants, and it’s hard to resist the strong smell of spicy Indian food on the streets.

Unfortunately, Little India isn’t as centrally located as many other areas in Singapore on this list. But luckily it’s easy to get around due to the great metro connections from the district to the rest of the city.

Backpackers in Singapore are absolutely crazy about Little India because it’s a cheap neighborhood to stay in. This is also the reason why Little India is one of the best areas to stay in Singapore if you’re traveling on a budget.

Chinatown: For food lovers

Just like Little India, Chinatown is an ethnic enclave that serves as the center of the Chinese people in Singapore. This is one of the most authentic areas of the city and buzzes with life.

The streets are lined with Chinese shops, colorful markets, unique architecture, traditional lanterns, beautiful temples, and religious attractions. But this is also where you’ll find some of the best food in all of Singapore. There’s so much variety of food and you can eat everywhere from small tasteful street kitchens to luxurious restaurants.

Chinatown is also known for having some of the cheapest hotels in central Singapore. So, it’s an obvious place to stay if you love food and would like to stay fairly centrally in affordable hotels. Chinatown is a nice area in Singapore but remember to find a hotel located near a subway station.

Sentosa Island: For families with children

The small island of Sentosa is Singapore’s holiday paradise and is visited by more than 20 million people a year.

This is the perfect place for a beach holiday in Singapore with beautiful hotels, man-made beaches, great eateries, and lots of entertainment. The exciting attractions on Sentosa Island include Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium, Adventure Cove Waterpark, and Madame Tussauds Singapore.

Sentosa Island is the best place to stay in Singapore for families with children who would like to visit some of the theme parks in Singapore. However, I don’t recommend staying on Sentosa Island if you would like to see the traditional sights of Singapore.

You can easily get back and forth to the mainland, but it’s just a little more time-consuming. It may be a better idea to settle for a few nights on Sentosa and then spend the rest of the time on the mainland of Singapore.

Civic Center: For the cultural

Civic Center is centrally located in Singapore with a perfectly close distance to the most popular areas of Singapore. Here you’re within walking distance to Marina Bay, Orchard Road, Clarke Quay, and Little India.

Civic Center is known for its important public buildings, museums, parks, memorials, and beautiful architecture. Of course, the area also offers good restaurants, shopping, and varied nightlife.

So, Civic Center is the perfect place if you want to stay centrally and be within walking distance to all the best of Singapore. Here you can find everything whether you love museums and history, a wild nightlife, delicious food, authentic experiences, or world-famous attractions.

The hotels in the Civic Center aren’t as cheap as in Little India and Chinatown for example, but the central location is worth the money.

Orchard Road: For shopaholics

Another of the best places to stay in Singapore is Orchard Road, one of the oldest and most popular streets in Singapore. This 1.6 miles (2.5 kilometers) long boulevard is world-famous for its great shopping opportunities.

The boulevard is crammed with exclusive shops and a myriad of large shopping malls. It is definitely the perfect place to stay in Singapore if you love shopping in designer stores. If you need to enjoy life for a while, there are also plenty of great cafes and restaurants.

You should know that Orchard Road is a luxurious and expensive area to stay in Singapore. So, if you don’t want to spend the whole trip shopping, it might be a good idea to stay somewhere else.

Orchard Road could in principle be located anywhere else in the world and certainly doesn’t give the real Singapore feel. You should definitely choose another place to stay in Singapore if you’re looking for a more authentic travel experience.
